·        Historical Society

The Cherokee County Historical Society was founded in 1975 as a nonprofit corporation and has a membership in excess of 400. The Historical Society's bi-monthly meetings focus on the history or culture of Cherokee County and the State of Georgia .

·        Crescent Farm Historical Center
Locally known as the Rock Barn, the Historical Center is located at 658 Marietta Highway across from City Hall in Canton . This historic structure serves as the meeting place, exhibition center special events facility. It is available to our members for use for special events at competitive rental rates.

 

·        Archives & Collections
The Historic Cherokee County Courthouse is located at 100 North Street in downtown Canton . Administrative office, boardroom, collections and archives of the Historical Society are Located on the third and fourth floors, formerly the Jury & Jailer's Quarters (3rd Floor) and the County Jail (4th floor).

·        Historical Train Depot 
The depot was a focal point for transporting local items such as cotton, rope and other agricultural products.  The depot was also used as a commuter transit for students attending school in Canton and Marietta .  The depot was manned by an agent and had a full-fledged communications service using telegraph until the late 1950s.

A National Register nomination for the depot was submitted to and accepted by the State Office of Historical Preservation. Several questions about the history of the depot remain unanswered. Located next to the depot is a retired caboose, donated by Norfolk Southern in July 1992. 

·        Historical Downtown Woodstock  
Brick paved sidewalks provide residents and visitors with a pedestrian friendly environment, where buildings dating back to 1879 are the trademark of this historical commercial district, the heart of Woodstock .

The Downtown District includes antique shops, tearooms and special events facilities.  Specialty shops, including hair salon, gift shop, coffeehouse and furniture store complement the area.  Services available include chiropractic care, spas, car repairs and more. 

~ Cobb County

·        Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield is a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. The Visitor Center offers an informative 20-minute video presentation and has a variety of Civil War uniforms and artifacts on display. Admission to the park is free. ·        Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

See history come alive with exciting, interactive exhibits at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, a Smithsonian Affiliate! Relive the excitement of the Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase through film, recreations and the stolen locomotive, the General; experience life as a worker in an early 20th century reproduction of the Glover Machine Shop, as “workers” assemble a locomotive; and see revolving Smithsonian exhibits on topics as diverse as National Parks to women’s lives in Appalachia.

·        Marietta Museum of History

§         Located in the historic Kennesaw House, the Marietta Museum of History weaves the rich history of Marietta together in a delightful tapestry that explores the Native American, Civil War and cultural history of Marietta .

·         Gone With The Wind Movie Museum

·         Atebellum & Victorian Homes
Marietta is graced with over 150 Atebellum and Victorian homes. A free self-guided historic walking/driving tour is available at the Marietta Welcome Center located in the historic depot just off the Marietta Square . Also included in the tour, and open to the public, are the Root House Museum , Brumby Hall and Gardens and the Marietta Fire Museum .

·         19th century Marietta Manufacturing Mill.

 Explore the ruins along the banks of Sope Creek. The park is located on Paper Mill Road between Terrell Mill Road and Johnson Ferry Road .

·         Concord Covered Bridge Historic District
- Concord Drive , near Smyrna

This district includes Ruff's Mill (c. 1850), Miller's House (c. 1850), The Rock House (c. 1900), the Concord Woolen Mills and the Concord Covered Bridge . The original covered bridge, constructed in the 1850s, was burned during the Civil War. The stone masonry supports on the current bridge are original.

·         Confederate Cemetery
The Confederate Cemetery was established to bury soldiers who had been killed in a train accident, and ultimately grew to serve as resting place for 3,000 Confederate soldiers

·         National Cemetery
